Requirements Overview

Your apprenticeship as a Shamanic Healer involves coursework, healing sessions (both for yourself and with others as a shamanic healer), and skill building through session reviews.  Courses come from various Tiers, listed here:

Requirements for Certification as a Shamanic Healer

COURSES

Introductory Classes - FREE

Of the Introductory Classes offered, you're required to take three:
  • Interconnected Web of Life
  • Intro to Shamanic Healing
  • "Am I a Shamanic Healer?"

Tier 1 Courses

Of the Tier 1 Courses, these are required:
  • Learning from the Earth - 7 Classes
  • Elements - 4 Classes
  • Calling in the Directions - 6 Classes
  • Medicine Walk - 3 + Ceremony

Tier 2 Courses 

Of the Tier 2 Courses, ALL are required: 
  • Magic and Mystery of the Spirit Realm - 8 Classes (Pre-recorded)
  • Shamanic Journeying Step-by-Step - 8 Classes (Pre-recorded)
  • Shamanic Sight: Seeing with the Heart – 10 Classes (Pre-recorded)
  • Dealing with Dark Energies During Shamanic Journeys – 9 Classes (Pre-recorded)

Tier 3 Courses - *Pre-Requisites for Tier 4 Apprenticeship Classes

Of the Tier 3 Courses, these are required:
  • Nature and Purpose of Soul – 4 Classes
  • Nature of Individual Consciousness – 6 Classes
  • Hidden Forces: Influences in the Spirit Realm – 8 Classes

Required Apprenticeship Courses - Tier 4

Tier 4 courses are for apprentices ONLY.  While you'll see other people in Tiers 1, 2, 3, your cohort will have exclusive access to Tier 4.  

All Courses are LIVE!  

All courses in Tier 4 are live and are NOT recorded; thus playbacks are not available.  Live participation and attendance is required.

ALL Tier 4 Courses are offered in the Spring and Summer, which follows nicely from prerequisite classes in Tier 3, (offered in Autumn).

The Call to the Sacred Path (and What You Bring) - 5 Classes

For many of us, the Call to be a healer (shamanic or otherwise) is undeniable.  In this class, we'll talk about the Call, and how your life experiences and ancestors help create the energies that you bring.  We'll explore how the Apprenticeship initiates you as an instrument of the Divine.  Then you'll have an opportunity to know the qualities of the "medicine" that you bring.

Preparing to Become a Shamanic Healer - 2 Classes

Shamanic healing requires a level of purification of the Spirit as well as the body.  Through various ways of being and our own inner growth, we can purify the Spirit.  We can also become aware of how we care for our bodies, how that impacts our energy, and how that, in turn, impacts our healing.  

This class also gathers our Spirit Helpers through Power Animal and Spirit Teach Retrievals.  

Creating and Being a Sacred Container - 3 Classes

Providing a Sacred Container for shamanic healing comes from both the environment (your office), you, your Spirit Animals and Teachers, the Earth Mother and the Creator.  Here, we'll talk about how to create a Sacred environment.  We'll also talk about YOU as a Sacred Container.  Your very presence can be healing to a client.  Knowing how all this works and how you can enhance this effect is what you'll learn here.

Shamanic Healing Session: Pre-Journey Consultation - 4 Classes

In these classes, you'll learn the interaction skills you'll need with your client from the first point of contact through the initial consultation in a session. There are shamanic as well as practical skills outlined and practiced here.  (This class is optional for some counselors and therapists).  ​

Shamanic Healing Session: Power Animal, Spirit Teacher, and Power Objects - 2 Classes

You'll learn how to guide a client into a shamanic journey, assist them in a power animal, spirit teacher, or power object retrieval, then guide them out of the journey.  You'll be practicing with fellow apprentices.  

Inner Shamanic Healing Step-by-Step - approx. 5 Classes

In this course, you'll learn a step-by-step approach to inner shamanic healing, which includes Soul Retrieval and more.  These steps provide a structural beginning of what will evolve into a spirit dance with intellect, heart, love, truth, soul, and spirit guiding you.  Until then, this structure can support your learning and give you guidelines along the way.  We must learn the steps before we dance....

Inner Shamanic Healing for Past Lives - approx. 2 Classes

The steps for healing past life issues is different from shamanic healing for current life issues.  This course will teach you the steps you'll need to do this sort of healing work.  

Live Demonstrations of Shamanic Healing Sessions - Multiple classes

​In this course, we follow the indigenous way of teaching, through observation of live shamanic healing sessions.  You and your fellow apprentices will have a shamanic healing session during class, then we'll discuss how the session worked.  We do NOT talk about your issues as a group; rather, we discuss how and why the healer did what she did. 

Shamanic Healing Ethics and Sacred Relationship - 4 Classes

​Moving into another person, into their inner universe, is an honor and a privilege.  A profound level of trust and emotional intimacy are involved.  This course talks about the Sacred Relationship and the ethics involved.  ​

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Shamanic Healing Sessions for Yourself

Personal inner growth and transformation are inherently a part of the apprenticeship at the Institute.  As your inner growth continues, you will begin naturally to develop a healing presence.  This presence is a direct result of the inner work that you're doing.  You'll need to complete at least 20 shamanic healing sessions for certification. For more information, please see the main Apprenticeship page.  

Practicing Shamanic Healing with Others

Your certification requires you to complete 20 fully documented shamanic healing sessions with clients.  You MAY NOT begin working with clients until you have completed all classes in Tier 4.  Some of your clients will come from volunteers in the community itself.  Your Apprenticeship Leader will provide more information as the time comes.  

Session Reviews for Apprentices' Shamanic Healing Sessions

As apprentices practice shamanic healing, they'll have the opportunity to share a recording of sessions (with written consent from the client, of course!) with the class.  This is a wonderful learning experience!  

Certification as a
Shamanic Healer

​​In order to become certified as a Shamanic Healer, you must fully attend each aspect of the training, demonstrate proficiency in both knowledge and skill, and demonstrate development of presence as a shamanic healer.  Successful completion of each of these elements substantiates your certification.

Attendance
Full LIVE attendance is required for all Tier 4 classes. In cases of illness or emergency, you'll need to consult with your apprenticeship leader.  
Completion of 20 Shamanic Healing Sessions (as the "Client")
Personal inner growth and transformation are inherently a part of the apprenticeship at the Institute.  As your inner growth continues, you will begin naturally to develop a healing presence.  This presence is a direct result of the inner work that you're doing.  You'll need to complete at least 20 shamanic healing sessions for certification.​
Completion of 20 Shamanic Healing Sessions (as the "Shamanic Healer")
​Gaining confidence, mastery, and even elegance in shamanic healing skills takes practice, time, and experience.  You'll be submitting documentation of 20 healing sessions working with clients.  Once documentation is received and all other requirements are met, you'll receive your certificate.   
Timing of Completion of Requirements
While it is possible to complete all requirements for the Shamanic Healer Certification within 1 year of your acceptance into the program, you may decide a slower pace, taking up to 3 years to complete all of the requirements.  All requirements must be completed within 3 years to receive your certification.
