The 3rd Retreat!

Here you will find detailed information about your third retreat and how to prepare.  Please review the information carefully and bookmark the page for future reference.

personal message from Selena

It is time.  This is the retreat you've been waiting for.  You will launch into learning the intricate skills of the shamanic healing journey itself.  Considering that, you may feel both excited and fearful or any mixture of emotions.  Let me reassure you that you have learned more than you realize from watching the healing sessions of your fellow apprentices!
Picture
While we will talk about the steps in the shamanic healing journey and you'll use the structure of these steps to guide you in your practice, leaning on these steps fades over time as you respond more and more from the recognized need, often quite individualized, of the client.  There is a balance, a dance, between structure and intuition.  As you grow in your healing skills, you can learn to be aware of this balance and moderate it as you need, dancing effortlessly between them.  For now, focus on the healing skills within the step-by-step structure that you'll be learning. Becoming solid in these steps will only fortify the play of intuition later.

preparing for the retreat

Honing 2nd Retreat Skills
The skills that you learned during your 2nd retreat should be honed and as automatic to you as possible so that you can focus on the new skills you'll be learning.  Focus on honing:
          Pre-session Ritual
          First Contact
          Shamanic Skills for Pre-Journey Consultation
                      Ways of Being
Using Shamanic Sight to Identify the Underlying Issue
Active Listening (Reflecting, Paraphrasing, Summarizing, Silence)
Guiding the Client into a Shamanic Journey
Books
For this retreat, you'll need to purchase and begin reading Healing the Shadow by Ross Bishop .  There is a optional second book that you can use for support of clients called Finding Inner Peace, also by Ross Bishop.  Please remember that you do not need to read the entire book before the retreat.  You can begin it and read at your own pace.

Sacred Object(s)
Remember to bring your sacred object for the altar!
The Drum
Of course! the drum comes with you!  This is only a reminder of the need to bring your friend.

Preparation for Ceremony
Also, as we will be doing opening and closing ceremony, you might want to bring any musical instruments that you play.  Along that same line, you may choose to bring ceremonial clothing if you like.  Poetry, writing, or songs are also welcome!

Clothing and Shoes
Please wear comfortable, casual clothing and bring warm house-shoes/booties to keep your feet warm indoors.

Food
For this retreat, it is very important to eat well and bring nurturing foods.  You may want to have high-protein healthy snacks for between sessions, like nuts or protein bars.

and the journey continues still...
