The 3rd Retreat!

Here you will find detailed information about your third retreat including the theme of the retreat and how to prepare.  Please review the information carefully and bookmark the page for future reference.

personal message from the apprenticeship leader

selena whittle

It is time.  This is the retreat you've been waiting for.  You will launch into learning the intricate skills of the shamanic healing journey itself.  Considering that, you may feel both excited and fearful or any mixture of emotions.  Let me reassure you that you have learned more than you realize from watching the healing sessions of your fellow apprentices!

While we will talk about the steps in the shamanic healing journey and you'll use the structure of these steps to guide you in your practice, leaning on these steps fades over time as you respond more and more from the recognized need, often quite individualized, of the client.  There is a balance, a dance, between structure and intuition.  As you grow in your healing skills, you can learn to be aware of this balance and moderate it as you need, dancing effortlessly between them.  For now, focus on the healing skills within the step-by-step structure that you'll be learning. Becoming solid in these steps will only fortify the play of intuition later.

about the 3rd retreat

In this third retreat, you will continue learning healing skills that naturally follow from the skills learned during the second retreat.  The focus will be on the shamanic healing journey itself for both current lifetime issues as well as past life issues.  In this retreat, you'll learn about:

          Soul Loss
Shamanic Healing Journey Step-by-Step for Current-Life Issues
Shamanic Healing Journey Step-by-Step for Past-Life Issues
How to Deal with Resistance to Healing and Intellectual Analysis

You'll practice:

The Entire Shamanic Healing Session (from first contact through debriefing) with Volunteers!

General Retreat Schedule
On Day 1 and Day 2 of the retreat, you'll have classes on the subjects above and you'll be practicing healing sessions on each other.  On Days 3 and 4 of the retreat, you'll be apprentice shamanic practitioners working with volunteer clients.  Depending upon the number of volunteers, we could have up to 4 sessions on each day, with 2 hours allotted for each session.  We will process the sessions at the end of the day.

On the days when you are practicing with client volunteers, we will be starting the day early (8:00 am) in order to accommodate up to 4 healing sessions and processing time at the end of the day.  Session times are
8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 2:00 pm Pacific Time.
Please be aware of the need for rest and good food on these days!!

client volunteers

For the retreat, we can accommodate up to 8 client volunteers.  All apprentices and the apprenticeship leader will be inviting people to participate.  Acceptance for the sessions are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Some Do's and Don'ts for the Client Volunteer Invites
Do NOT invite immediate family members to participate as they may not be comfortable exposing inner issues in front of you.
DO let the person know that you will NOT be working with them, but WILL likely be observing his/her session.
DO have the person read and sign the Consent Form which can be found on the right side of the page and downloaded for your convenience.
DO tell them the available session dates and possible times to see if they are available.
DO tell the person that all session times are Pacific Time zone!
ONLY when the Consent Form is signed, have the person contact the Institute to schedule the session.

Getting There
For those flying in, Portland International Airport (PDX) is the airport to choose when making your reservations.  For people flying in, we recommend purchasing your plane ticket sooner rather than later, as airfares tend to increase as the dates get closer.  The airport is about an hour away from our rental home, so you'll need to find a ride to get there.  Uber and Lyft are some alternatives.  If you coordinate with other apprentices who are also in need of a ride, you may be able to lessen the fee.  Local apprentices are usually willing to provide rides to people whenever possible.

Paying for the Retreat
You'll receive an invoice from the Institute for tuition and lodging fees very soon.  Please pay upon receipt.
